When work shifted to home living rooms and studies, Burns & McDonnell, a Kansas City, Missouri-based engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting company, created the “One Burns & McDonnell” virtual community, where staffers can share photos of their home office setups, tips on working from home and engage on a regular basis.
Employees with children can turn to the Parent Portal, another virtual space to talk about activities to keep kids engaged, entertained and educated as moms or dads juggle the challenges of working from home and leading remote learning.
Additionally, the Burns & McDonnell Foundation donated $1.5 million to the United Way COVID-19 Community Response and Recovery Fund.
“Our employee-owner’s desire to give back and empower others is the heartbeat of our firm and the Burns & McDonnell Foundation,” says CEO Ray Kowalik “During this pandemic, we are committed to protecting and supporting the most vulnerable in our communities."
In the photo: Burns & McDonnell employees have supported nearly 10,000 critical infrastructure projects throughout the pandemic, including Delta Airlines’ terminal redevelopment program at LaGuardia Airport in New York City.
