lagikapans.blogspot.com

United Way of Clallam County is encouraging community members to get out and volunteer — safely, with social distancing — for this year’s Day of Caring.

Community members are invited to participate either individually or with family members from a list of suggestions or create their own virtual volunteer project.

United Way Virtual Day of Caring to-go bags will be available for pick up at Port Angeles and Forks locations on Friday, Sept. 11. To-go bags include a garbage bag, rubber gloves, re-usable face mask, Live United T-Shirt, bottle of water and a snack.

Pick up bags from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at either the United Way Office, 905 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles, or Forks Chamber of Commerce, 1411 S. Forks Ave., Forks.

Volunteers can register and get more information at https://ift.tt/34SlQP7 2020VirtualDayOfCaring.

“Day of Caring is … the biggest day of collective volunteering across the country” said Amie Batton, United Way Campaign Chair. “We encourage you to pick a project, round up your family members, and help make a difference in our community.”

Caring, sharing ideas

• Write a letter to an elderly community member

Help people fight social isolation amid COVID-19 and support elders in our community. In partnership with St. Andrew’s Assisted Living, participants can write a letter to one of their residents. Get more information at https://ift.tt/34SlQP7 letterwriting.

• Reflect and remember

Join the Port Angeles School District AmeriCorps Vistas and help clean up the 9/11 Memorial Waterfront Park at 811 Caroline St., Port Angeles. A candlelight vigil is scheduled for 9:11 a.m.- 9:11 p.m. AmeriCorps members will be handing out Family Night Activity bags at the Port Angeles YMCA, 302 S. Francis St. at 5:30 p.m.

• Beautify our area

Grab a United Way To-Go Bag and head out solo or with family members to spend some time picking up trash in neighborhoods or along one’s favorite hiking trail.

• Send a smile

Send a picture of yourself smiling to info@unitedway clallam.org or tag Clallam County United Way on social media and explain why you are hopeful. United Way will share smiles and stories on social media.

• Rock it with kindness

Children and adults alike can paint rocks with positive messages and leave them along sidewalks, by mailboxes, etc. for others to find.

• Help build a house

Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County is building two houses and needs volunteers. Details can be found at www.habitat clallam.org/how_to_help/volunteer.html.
