Local provider Silver Lining changing home care landscape in Delaware - CapeGazette.com

By 2030, it is estimated that the number of people over age 75 will double, and nearly one-third of Delaware’s population will be over 60.

The demand for senior care is escalating. And even more in demand are easy-to-understand, right-to-the-doorstep services for anyone who wants to age in place.

Silver Lining Home Healthcare, owned by Registered Nurse Tiffany Rubin, launched a brand refresh May 4 with expanded services to better suit the needs of Delawareans. With her husband serving on active duty in the Air Force and her own family getting older, Rubin knows firsthand the challenges families are facing: juggling careers, personal lives and care needs of aging relatives. With a rapidly aging demographic in Delaware, this new brand is uniquely positioned to help people age at home, wherever that home is. Silver Lining can deliver care at any facility or location within Delaware.

“What sets our services apart is that we are a one-stop shop for every level of care (companion care, personal care, nursing care) and we are constantly innovating and partnering to provide a better customer experience. An example of that is the new handyman subscription program launching this month in partnership with local handyman company Handyman Humphries,” said Allison Brooks, executive director of Silver Lining. “We also have an employee turnover rate over 70 percent lower than our industry average, stellar customer experience scores, and have developed out the processes so that we can prove how valuable home health and home care is in the healthcare continuum.”

Showing better health outcomes by focusing on the whole person and individual physical, emotional and environmental needs positions Silver Lining to be a part of future insurance offerings as well, advancing what home care can do for Delawareans.

Silver Lining Home Healthcare provides a full spectrum of medical, nonmedical and affiliated in-home care services. Services range from two hours per week of caring companionship to around-the-clock skilled nursing care. Because Silver Lining is a skilled agency, it can provide care prescribed by a physician including medication management, wound care, catheter care and injections. Silver Lining’s reliability pledge is an industry-first commitment to the client experience.

Rubin said, “Our brand-new reliability pledge shows we want to put our money where our mouth is; if we’re late, we pay our clients by the minute. It shows our team members and our clients that we are fully committed to not missing visits and unmatched reliability. Our services don’t change the complexity of life, but they do give choice and change the quality of life someone can have as they age. Our focus right now is to expand our service offerings and build partnerships so we can bring expertise and quality care to any situation.”

Another example of how Silver Lining is changing the home care landscape is through a new healthcare concierge program planned to roll out this year. For this program, advanced practice nurses visit clients at home and then collaborate with social workers, eliminating clients’ need to go offsite to a primary care practitioner. “We always saw a near future where bringing back doctor visits at home would be beneficial to clients, particularly those that are homebound or challenged with cost-effective transportation options. COVID-19 has accelerated our vision around this and shows how powerful it will be to provide an effective option like this, all under one roof,” said Rubin.

With programs like Medicaid, long-term care Medicaid in Delaware, Medicare Advantage, VA benefits, long-term care insurance and life insurance with long-term care riders, home care payment options are starting to catch up to the needs of Delawareans. The expanded payment options also show the trending focus on the importance of home care and home health in the care continuum.
