ROXBURY, NJ - Victoria Gonzalez was recently selected as the recipient of the Morris County Caring Student Award (MCPCA) for Roxbury High School.
The MCPCA presents the award annually to one senior from each Morris County high school who has given selflessly to others, often being unrecognized.
Prior to COVID-19, students were awarded with this recognition at a luncheon with their family and counselor. This year though was a little different; the winners were given their awards at their houses.
MCPCA Vice President Mary Ann Chimento, reached out to Roxbury Police Chief Marc Palanchi to make the announcement.
In doing so, she said, “As some of you know, I am very active in the education world of Morris County ... This is the highest honor that the MCPCA awards to a student in Morris County. The recipients are nominated by their High School Counselor for service and kindness above and beyond. These students have worked tirelessly for their underserved fellow students or for organizations in the USA and throughout the world.”
Gonzalez, a senior, was surprised June 2 with a visit from Palanchi and an MCPCA representative. She was presented with her award sign and a certificate.
Chimento said she thought it was "appropriate to request that the most honorable and service-minded people in law enforcement help to honor these great young adults.”
