United Way Hosts Day of Caring with Virtual Kickoff - Ozarks Independent

lagikapans.blogspot.com

There were no actual pancakes at the United Way of the Ozarks Pancake kickoff for the annual Day of Caring, but a lot of online remembrances as the Day kicked off with a virtual kickoff.

The kickoff video features United Way head Greg Burris, Ballparks of America CEO and former Major Leaguer Scott Bailes, and Springfield Cardinals mascot Louie using a tape measure to keep Burris at least six feet away for social distancing.

The theme for this year’s Day of Caring is “Connecting the Dots.” The theme revolves around how everything we do to make the community better has an impact on other aspects of the community.

“At the United Way of the Ozarks, we believe it’s our responsibility to create community owners,” Burris says in the video. “Owners take care of their community on the Day of Caring and also throughout the year.”

While many projects scheduled for the Day of Caring were postponed due to COVID-19, several projects were completed on Thursday:

  • Discovery Center had SPD come out to garden and clean
  • James River Basin had crews from the City of Springfield and American National clean up Wilson Creek
  • Watershed Committee of the Ozarks had volunteers from Bass Pro, Communication Workers of America, and Miller Engineering
  • KPM CPA’s and Advisors continued with supplies drives for Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield and Victory Mission
  • Abilities First received a generous supplies donation from Four Corners Development, LLC
  • Least of These had volunteers from Springfield Cardinals spruce up their food pantries

More information on the Day of Caring can be found on the United Way website.
