Parents taking care of children under the age of 12 who are in quarantine due to coronavirus infection do not need to join them in isolation if they themselves are vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19, the Health Ministry announced Wednesday in a change of policy.
“This is good news for parents of children under the age of 12, who were forced to go into quarantine with their children and miss days of work,” the ministry said in a statement.
Under new regulations, a vaccinated person is anyone who has had three vaccine shots or had the first two within the previous six months.
Recovered people are those recovered within the past six months, or who recovered earlier than that and then had at least one vaccine shot.
As a fourth virus wave has begun to recede, with infection rates dropping off, the government has looked at ways to reduce the quarantine requirements on children in order to free up parents who would otherwise need to stay at home with them.
On Tuesday, millions of coronavirus antigen testing kits arrived in the country as the government rolled out a plan to allow schoolchildren who have been exposed to a virus carrier to continue attending classes by undergoing daily virus tests for a week instead of going into quarantine.
The so-called Green Classrooms plan has already been piloted in dozens of local authorities across the country.
Since the start of the school year, tens of thousands of students were forced into quarantine after a classmate was diagnosed with the virus.
