Hiring fair seeking child care assistants - hanscom.af.mil

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Child care officials here will host two local hiring fairs for job seekers interested in federal employment and caring for military-connected children.

Officials will hire qualified child care assistants on-site Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the MassHire Career Center in Woburn, Massachusetts, and Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Aloft Hotel in Lexington, Mass.

“We are hiring full-time child care assistants into positions that include a competitive benefits package, a 15 percent reduction in child care fees and incentive bonuses up to $1,500,” said Maj. Joshua Caragan, 66th Force Support Squadron commander here.

Interested job seekers are asked to pre-register for the MassHire Career Center Hiring Fair Sept. 22. Those without a MassHire JobQuest account are asked to visit https://jobquest.dcs.eol.mass.gov/JobQuest/Register/AccountSetup to create one. Individuals with a MassHire JobQuest can pre-register by emailing lchakalos-ryan@mhmncc.com.

According to base officials, no registration is required for the Sept. 24 hiring fair at Aloft Hotel.

Base officials are partnering with Lowell and Woburn MassHire, the Massachusetts National Guard, Massachusetts Military Task Force, the executive director for the Boston Federal Executive Board and the 319th Recruiting Squadron to reach eligible candidates.

Since taking command last June, Col. Taona Enriquez, installation commander, has made access to child care a priority following the implementation of a Department of Defense-directed supplanting policy.

“Staffing shortages in child care are impacting our military and civilian families at Hanscom Air Force Base,” she said. “I am committed to providing access to all of our eligible families who require care for their children.”

Some of the many benefits new child-care related hires will have include paid vacation, sick time and federal holidays, as well as parental leave following one year of employment, according to hiring officials.

“Employees will also have other benefits such as tuition assistance, medical, dental, vision and life insurance, as well as access to a 401K and retirement plan,” said Caragan.

Other benefits for employees include access to FSS-run facilities such as a world-class fitness center, an Olympic swimming pool and a 12-lane bowling facility. For more information on these facilities, visit www.HanscomFSS.com.

Child care assistant positions are located at Hanscom’s Child Development Center and the School Age Program.

“Pay will be set based on experience and education or certification,” said Caragan. “Based on these factors, starting pay will range from $18 to $20.22 per hour.”

The Child Development Center assists military and civilian personnel in balancing the demands of family life and accomplishing the DOD mission, according to the center’s webpage.

“The CDC offers full-time and hourly care on a space-available basis for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old,” said Kristen Melvin, 66 FSS CDC director.

The School Age Program serves military and civilian employees by providing a caring and positive environment for their children, according to the SAP website.

“The School Age Program offers before- and after-school care as well as child care for children during school vacations and summer programs,” said Scott Craver, 66 FSS Child and Youth Services Flight chief.
