FAIRMONT — Baywood Home Care provides 24-hour “live-in” care, as well as in-home caregivers on an hourly schedule as needed.
Baywood started in 2000 in the cities. The local office was located in Sherburn but moved to Fairmont several years ago. Jennifer Harris has been a nurse at Baywood for five years.
Harris said they used to be located across from the Five Lakes Centre parking lot, but in February of this year, they moved downtown into the old Tech Builders building.
“We were growing out of our small office, so we needed to expand. We actually hired another nurse and will be hiring a fourth nurse shortly,” said Harris.
Baywood can do any nursing home level or assisted living type care, all at home.
“We do anything from home care with a home health aide from three hours a day, up to 24 hours a day,” Harris said.
She said on average, a nurse will stay five to seven days at a time. She said they provide all the care for the client including bathing, dressing, med management, meal preparation, errands, and transportation to and from appointments.
Right now Baywood has about 10 live-in clients and 40 clients total. Harris said for their hourly care clients, they try to keep it within Martin, Faribault or Jackson County, but for 24-hour care, she said they have a wide range of client locations. They’ve gone to Worthington, Albert Lea, St. Peter and into areas of Iowa.
She said 24-hour care is good for someone contemplating going into a nursing home or assisted living. Around-the-clock care provides supervision for safety and help getting around.
“It’s an option people aren’t aways aware of. They can stay in their home and get 24-hour care instead of having to go into a nursing home or assisted living,” Harris said.
She said Baywood has seen a boom in the last year and have found that a lot more people want to stay in their own home, especially with Covid still an issue.
Harris said Baywood is always accepting new clients. She said they’re also hiring for hourly and 24-hour care home health aides.
“We do go out and make home visits for informational meetings and that’s at no charge,” Harris said.
