Hundreds of volunteers and their time were dedicated to projects throughout Carbon County on Saturday morning as United Way’s Day of Caring returned after a pandemic hiatus. The event returned with a bang in 2021 as dozens of projects were tackled by members of the community.
The day began at Lin’s Fresh Market early that morning as the volunteers were treated to a free breakfast. During this time, community members could pursue the various projects and decide where they would donate their time that day.
The projects were gathered by the United Way of Eastern Utah Board along with suggestions from the community. Projects ranged from local park cleanup to assisting elderly community members with household maintenance. Other projects included a free car wash for first responders, cleanup of local walkways and much more.
After the projects were completed, truckloads of garbage, weeds and debris were taken to the Carbon County Landfill. The county graciously allowed free dumping for those dropping off trash gathered during the Day of Caring.
The day culminated with a free lunch, provided by Lin’s, at Washington Park in Price. Swire Coca Cola donated the drinks for the luncheon while Sutherlands provided water and gloves for workers throughout the day.
While Saturday focused on service projects throughout the community, it also served as a diaper and baby wipe drive for the Southeast Utah Health Department. Participants were encouraged to donate these items, which will be given to the health department to benefit those in need throughout the community.
