Community Care set to host Awareness Day | News, Sports, Jobs - The Inter-Mountain

BUCKHANNON — The percentage of adults reporting mental health issues is at least 5 percent higher in West Virginia than the national average with an estimated more than 300 people in the region affected by these conditions.

Today, Community Care of West Virginia will sponsor a Recovery & Mental Health Awareness Day from 4-6 p.m. at Jawbone Park in Buckhannon. Information and resources on risk factors, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of mental health issues will be provided and Community Care treatment specialists will be on hand.

“By learning more about risk factors and treatment options, citizens can reduce the stigma frequently associated with mental health issues and encourage people in need of services to seek help,” explained Judith Utley, peer recovery specialist with CCWV.

Data from America’s Health Rankings indicate that the percentage of West Virginias who reported their mental health was “not good” for 14 or more days in the past 30 days has continued to rise since 2011 with a steep increase since 2017.

Community Care Connections, the behavioral health and recovery services division of CCWV, reports that the impact of mental health and substance use disorder is apparent in our community.

“We are asking the citizens of Buckhannon to join us in celebrating Recovery & Mental Health Awareness Day on October 14. Recovery is for everyone: every person, every family, every community. This outreach event will spread the message that people can and do recover,” expressed Utley.
