Iowa wrestling's recruiting haul keeps on haulin', with another pair of additions to their 2022 recruiting class. The first commitment came from high-profile Pennsylvania prospect Kolby Franklin.

Several of Iowa's latest recruits have been locally-sourced, including from right in their back yard in Iowa, but Franklin bucks that trend. Franklin is a standout talent Wyoming Seminary in Pennsylvania and one of the best in the country at 197 lbs. Franklin is ranked 5th in the nation at 197 lbs and a Top-40 recruit overall in the 2022 class (per MatScouts). He selected Iowa over offers from Penn State and Arizona State.
As Cody Goodwin noted at Hawk Central, Franklin has a strong list of accomplishments already:
His résumé is full of high-level accomplishments. In October, Franklin took third at the Super 32 Challenge, which is considered the toughest high school wrestling tournament in the country. This past summer, he took fourth at the Junior men's freestyle national championships.
As a freshman in 2019, Franklin made the Pennsylvania state finals for Saint Josephs Catholic Academy, then won a 16U men's freestyle national title later that summer.
Franklin is a big talent and he projects at an area of considerable need for the Hawkeyes, 195 lbs. He should be able to slide in and replace Jacob Warner in the Iowa lineup within the next year or two. We look forward to seeing what he can do in black and gold.
The other commit Iowa added was from a little bit closer to home -- Joel Jesuroga, a senior at Southeast Polk and the older brother of another recent Iowa commit, Nate Jesuroga.
Jesuroga has an 85-15 overall record and went 30-1 last year en route to a 3A Iowa state championship at 145 lbs in Iowa. He's also done well in freestyle competition, as Cody Goodwin noted at Hawk Central:
Even more, Jesuroga was a member of the Iowa team that won the Junior freestyle national duals this summer, posting a 6-1 record over the two-day competition. He is currently ranked No. 23 nationally at 145 pounds, according to MatScouts, and is considered the No. 154 overall prospect in the 2022 class.
Jesuroga seems to project around 149 lbs in the college ranks. He isn't likely to be an immediate contributor at Iowa, but he he has a lot of upside and should be a valuable addition to Iowa's wrestling depth. Welcome to Iowa City, Kolby and Joel.
