The stress and emotional toll on caregivers and families of loved ones impacted by memory loss, dementia, and Alzheimer’s Disease can be overwhelming — especially during the holidays. Today's large family gatherings are complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic and related health precautions, making ways to care for and engage loved ones with memory loss exceptionally challenging.
Hear from community and University of Minnesota (UMN) experts with tips on keeping the holidays a celebration of spirit and dignity. Presenters will include researchers and care professionals from the UMN School of Public Health's Center for Healthy Aging and Innovation (CHAI) and community healthcare providers. Attendees will learn:
- How to recognize the early warning signs of Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia in adults, parents, grandparents, and older adults in their family circle;
- How to cope with the mixture of feelings during the holiday, including specific challenges, and ways to reduce stress and increase emotional and spiritual peace; and
- Tips and resources for hosting holiday gatherings in your home and celebrations in care settings and public events, while taking COVID-19 precautions.
The event will include a panel discussion followed by a Q&A period.
