While critics last year looked at the mid-season stretch and questioned UC's resume when it contained so many soft opponents, we saw countless ranked teams cough up games they should've won.
Not Cincinnati.
The Bearcats beat Tulsa 31-21 on Saturday, winning a game in which they were heavily favored for the 46th consecutive time, extending the longest streak in the country. When was the last time the Bearcats lost a game in which they were favored? A November 2017 defeat at East Carolina.
Luke Fickell's team hasn't lost games against inferior opponents. It may not make a road victory in Oklahoma any more impressive, but the accumulation of these kinds of Saturdays stands out. The AAC is a conference that requires a focused handling of business, and when it comes to handling business, the Bearcats are college football's gold standard.

The average recruiting-minded Bearcats fan probably first heard the name Corey Kiner in 2017. The Roger Bacon high school freshman grabbed headlines and recruiting buzz early, rushing for a school-record 302 yards and five touchdowns in just the second game of his high school career. By the end of his varsity days, he'd finish third in state history in rushing yards and scoring, winning Ohio Mr. Football (a prize Evan Prater claimed a year earlier).
But the LSU Tigers, fresh off a picture-perfect title run led by fellow Ohio product Joe Burrow, swooped in to land Kiner's services. Bearcats fans were left dreaming about what could have been.
It took longer than we thought and included a detour, but Kiner is finally wearing red and black this season, and the wait has been worth it. The sophomore has rushed for a touchdown in each of his first five games back in Cincinnati. Saturday's game also marked the first 100-yard rushing game of his college career. Hopefully, it's the first of many for a rushing attack that had its most impressive game of the young season with 198 yards and a pair of rushes for 50-plus yards.

Stat of the Game
The Bearcats established squatter's rights in the Golden Hurricane backfield Saturday, sacking Tulsa quarterbacks 11 times. That's an AAC record and the most by the Bearcats since a November 24, 2007 road win at Syracuse. (Hello, Haruki Nakamura!)One and a half of Saturday's sacks went to Ivan Pace Jr. Through five games, Pace has recorded six of 'em. The Bearcats' single-season record is 13 (Anthony Hoke in 2007). The single-season high of the Fickell era is 7.5 (Cortez Broughton in 2018 and Curtis Brooks in 2021). While we're at it, Pace has recorded 13.5 tackles for a loss. The Cincinnati single-season record is 28 (Mike Gates in 1980) and the Fickell-era high is 17.5 (Cortez Broughton in 2018).
