OAKVILLE — Bruce Wing, of Oakville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Aug. 12, 2020.
Bruce was a loving, caring and protective father and grandfather. He kept a positive attitude, and was very hardworking even thru the many challenges he faced. He was a toolmaker for various manufacturing plants in the Waterbury area while also proudly serving as a Watertown Firefighter until having to leave for medical reasons.
During his active time at home, Bruce enjoyed tinkering with tractors and snowblowers and could never pass up a good deal. He enjoyed dinners out with his family and watching UConn woman’s basketball on TV.
He was a very family oriented man who was always there for his daughter as she was growing up. When she married, this same love was shown to her family. He often babysat and always attended his granddaughters games, practices and recitals, and was very proud of them. He also spent many years caring for his mother.
Bruce was the kind of guy who would do anything for anyone without expecting anything in return, always putting others before himself. He was always there to help when you needed it. He will be greatly missed by many, but especially his daughter and family.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Josephine Wing, and brother Donald Wing. He leaves behind his daughter, Wendy Martinelli and her husband, Robert, and their two daughters, Melanie and Samantha, as well as a nephew, Donald Wing.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to his aid, Bernard, for his patience and compassion which allowed Bruce to live his final months at home as he had wished.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 669 Platt Road, Watertown. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks and social distancing are required. The Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
