RAPID CITY, S.D. – Each year The United Way hosts a Day of Caring, where people volunteer all day around the community.
On this day, volunteers usual repair, paint, clean, and more for local people in need and for non-profits.
This year, with the pandemic still in full swing, things will look a bit different.
Instead of a day of caring, there will be a whole Month of Caring. United Way is doing this so people can socially distance and volunteer in way that they are comfortable.
People can volunteer and donate from a distance, or go to different locations throughout the month where people will be working on projects.
The organization says, non-profits need help now, more than ever.
“The non-profit community especially has been hit hard and some of our organizations are seeing a 300 % increase in demand for services,” says Jamie Toennies, executive director of United Way of the Black Hills.
The month of caring starts in September. You can find more information about volunteering on their website .
