Oklahoma Caring Vans will resume their mobile immunization services Tuesday for the first time in months due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Directors of the organization expect to be busy getting kids up to date before they head back to school.
State law requires children have certain immunizations to enroll in classes.
"I think that we will see a lot of parents that are getting their kids out to maybe pick up school schedule, or to get some school supplies. So, I think getting their kids immunized will be at the top of their minds as well," says manager Amy Pulliam.
Since the vans have been parked since March, the organization says the number of kids they've seen is way down.
"Our caring van program has seen 60 percent less children at this time than we did compared to last year," Pulliam explains.
Pulliam notes that it is concerning to see the state so far behind on immunizations, but they believe their mobile service will provide the access people need.
Oklahoma Caring Vans provide immunizations kids need like Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps and Rubella on a first come first serve basis.
A parent or guardian will need to be present to provide shot records and fill out paperwork.
Services are free to children, aged six weeks through 18 years, who qualify; this includes children who are uninsured, Medicaid eligible or American Indian.
Pulliam ensures parents concerned about the spread of COVID-19 that staff will be following all CDC guidelines. This includes social distancing and wearing personal protective equipment.
