During the Coronavirus pandemic Because You Care Animal Rescue has received more adoption applications than they have in the past
Kris Steiner, Executive Director, Because You Care said, “a huge increase of the number of applications. We are typically getting 20 applications per dog.”
But where are all the dogs?
Steiner continued, "we look down the row of kennels and it's very surreal seeing all the empty kennels."
There are no dogs inside, instead they are spread out across the area in foster homes.
Steiner elaborated, "actually easier than we thought. The community has been fantastic coming out and offering to take these dogs
Because you care needed to find foster homes for as many animals as possible in order to reduce the 80 volunteers that take care of the animals each week
Steiner said, “so those are the volunteers that we had to ask to stay home for their safety as well as everybody else's. “
A few are still volunteering at the shelter in order to take care of the cats on sight and to clean '
Steiner described, “daily cleanings many times a day, we're sanitizing all the surfaces that are commonly touched.”
Even though most of the animals aren't at the shelter, you can still apply to adopt one at Because You Care.org. If approved you will schedule an appointment to meet the animal
Steiner, concluded, “"foster homes bring the dogs, we let them meet the potential adoption homes right here in the parking lot if it's a nice day, if not then we have a nice large playroom inside.”
Masks are required while inside.
