(WBNG) -- Caring for the Homeless Population Collaborative is the winner of a two thousand dollar grant from Upstate Shredding for Southern Tier Tuesdays.

The Collaborative is a group of citizens, local hospitals, church members, human services agencies, and county officials who were concerned for the homeless population in Oneonta.

This group has been working for two years to open the Oneonta Warming Station, in hopes of opening next month.

This grant will be used as part of their fundraising efforts to open the warming station, but the Collaborative is asking the community for help in finding staff and raising funds.

Lynn Glueckert with Catholic Charities of Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie Counties, says the facility will provide safety, shelter, and a warm meal and drink, but also resources and services for the homeless population to find permanent homes.

To volunteer or donate visit the Oneonta Warming Station Facebook page here.

Southern Tier Tuesdays is a philanthropic endeavor of Adam Weitsman, owner of Upstate Shredding, and his daughter, Clover.  For more information or to nominate a Southern Tier non-profit go to southerntiertuesdays.com
