TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Area United Way hosted its 2nd Annual Day of Caring Regional Food and Blood Drive Friday.
The event stretched across Green Country with food collections at 18 locations including the Tulsa Area United Way in downtown Tulsa. Some locations also took in blood donations to help fight the critical shortage in Tulsa.
According to Hunger Free Oklahoma, one in five kids in our state don’t get the food they need.
Krista Hemme with United Way told FOX23 the goal for the event was 60,000 pounds of food for organizations across the community. It’s a need she says is severe amid the pandemic.
If you couldn’t make it to the event, you can drop off food at the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma . You can also always donate blood through the American Red Cross or the Oklahoma Blood Institute.
Hemme said roughly 40 blood donation appointments were completely booked at Tulsa Area United Way Friday.
