VICTORIA, Texas – From June 21st through August 1st, the United Way of the Crossroads will provide prompts, activities, and opportunities to get involved in the work of area non-profits, learn about available resources, and have fun. Sponsored by Chick-fil-A and H-E-B., each week will have a different focus and will partner with groups working in that area. “We are excited to be able to provide ways for people to engage with their neighbors in the Crossroads this summer,” says Brooke Garcia, executive director of the United Way of the Crossroads. “As we come out of the pandemic, this opportunity to reconnect with our community is invaluable”.

Community members can join at no cost and choose from a variety of activities each week. Participants can engage through virtual activities, live events, volunteer opportunities, and more. Offerings for all ages and interest levels are available. People are encouraged to post pictures of their Summer of Caring activities with #socXroads. A drawing will be held each week and those who post could win party packs from Chick-fil-A, United Way goodies, and more. Chick-fil-A owner and operator, David Murphy said, “At Chick-fil-A – Victoria, we care about others, especially our community members, and lasting relationships matter to us. It was important for us to join the United Way and their Summer of Caring campaign, to help them continue to have a positive impact in the lives of others.”

The Summer of Caring kicks off on June 21st with ‘Get to Know Us’ week, in which community members are encouraged to start the 6-week long virtual bingo game, sign up to volunteer, join an effort to fund the next Tiny Library build, and more. “We are excited about our partnership with United Way of the Crossroads,” said Bobby Rodriguez, H-E-B Public Affairs Specialist, “we value the work that United Way does to support their communities”. The United Way of the Crossroads will also be collecting fans for senior citizens. Donations of new electric fans can be made on June 26th at the Victoria County Health Department from 1-4 pm. Drives for school supplies, children’s books, pet food, and items needed by our homeless friends will take place in subsequent weeks.
