Spring Valley has been actively working with seniors in the area since 1957 to enhance quality of life through innovation, ongoing education and encouragement. Over the years the staff members have developed strong and lasting relationships with both the community and its healthcare services.
Presently there are three options at Spring Valley Living:
• The Evergreens is a 20-unit flexible living community for older adults that want to spend more of their time enjoying life. Overlooking a city park and public walking trails, the Evergreens provides scenic living in Spring Valley. Residents will enjoy social activities and relaxing in the inviting common areas and outdoor spaces.
• The Estates is a flexible living community of 14 apartments. Staff is committed to resident-centered care, helping them live with as much independence, dignity and comfort as possible. Dignity, self-worth and respect are essential goals in meeting each individual’s needs. Residents can choose to join others for socializing and activities, or just relax by the cozy fireplace.
• The Care Center, where they “strive to provide high quality, resident-centered long term care as well as short term rehabilitation, and a flexible, enjoyable environment for residents” is staffed by caring and highly skilled nursing staff and features both private and semi-private rooms. They offer excellent physical, occupational, and speech therapies as well as restorative nursing programs, working to keep residents functioning at their highest possible level while meeting their individual goals.
One goal of Spring Valley Home Health is to provide high quality in-home care, as stated on their website. “Being in the comfort of your own home, surrounded by loved ones, can mean a great deal to a person and his or her family. Individualized treatment programs are developed to patient needs with ongoing assessments to achieve optimum health.”
A letter informing the SVL team of preparations to prevent and control the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) illness was sent in March to residents, families, and employees making known “that all our residents, visitors, and staff are healthy. SVL is working closely with the following recommendations from the local, state, and federal health agencies. CMS sent out new guidance for Long Term Care Facilities indicating that no visitors unless end of life care.” These guidelines, found at https://ift.tt/2WtaYD9, are being followed.
In the June 19, 2020, newsletter, information about the Outdoor Visiting Policy was outlined, which insured those at Spring Valley Living are “outside and enjoying our well-earned Minnesota summer days,” and being kept up to date on how the COVID-19 protection efforts are going. When asked about the current and sizable expansion of Spring Valley Living, Penny Solberg, president and CEO of Spring Valley Living replied, “Spring Valley Living identified a strong need for memory care apartments after five years of research and assessment on the area’s aging population, and services that would meet the individual needs of area residents in various stages of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia our aging population is facing.”
The new Memory Care unit being added features 24 apartments added to Spring Valley Estates. Core Partners are Wold Architects, Joseph Company, and the City of Spring Valley, who was instrumental in working with Spring Valley Living to secure financing for the project with Merchants Bank and F & M Community Bank. Spring Valley Living also received a Live Well At Home Grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services to support the project.
Also under construction is an adult day area (available five days a week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a maximum of five people at one time) will serve those that are dependent upon a caregiver to provide support to their primary caregivers who remain in the workplace or need respite from their caregiving role.
“We will also be adding a 12-unit wing to the existing Care Center,” says Solberg. “This is not an increase in overall capacity, but an increase in the number of private rooms that will each feature its own bathroom and shower, replacing semi-private rooms in the Sunny Lane wing presently having one bathroom to four people.” Some semi-private rooms will continue to be available.
Drone photographs taken by Dan Reiland of Spring Valley show just how far the project has come. The tentative opening of the Memory Care apartments is November 1, 2020, and the new wing in the care center should be completed by December 1, 2020.
Spring Valley Living is taking reservations for both areas of the new construction now.
