CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Volunteers were supposed to paint the exterior of the Self Help Center in Evansville. However, the weather had other plans.

This is one of the projects that the United Way of Natrona County has done in the past month. The Self Help Center also got some landscaping help from volunteers as another project.

This is also one project where volunteers can keep social distance or work outside.

Anna Wilcox, United Way of Natrona County executive director, said getting volunteers to do projects that won’t fit in their partner’s budgets helps out a lot.

“The national average for volunteer hours is 25 dollars per hour. All of our projects had combined over 200 volunteers. That’s 800 hours and 20,000 dollars worth of work,” Wilcox said.

Jennifer Dyer, executive director of the Self Help Center, said they have benefitted from the month of caring.

“We gave them a list of things we needed to be done and they were gracious enough to partner us with donors and other agencies willing to help,” Dyer said.

Wilcox adds they had other options for volunteers to do month of caring projects at home.
