A Berrien County Sheriff’s Deputy is credited with helping care for an owl after it was struck by a vehicle.
The collision happened around 8:50 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, on M-140 in Watervliet Township.
The driver of the vehicle had no damage to her vehicle, but was concerned for the welfare of the owl, so she contacted police.
Deputy Jerad Phillips located the wounded owl near the roadway and, with help from a DNR Conservation Officer, was able to make arrangements with a licensed wild animal rehabilitation center specializing in hawks and owls located in the Kalamazoo area.
Deputy Phillips cared for the owl until it was turned over to a wildlife rescue specialist on Saturday morning.
