Aug. 23—Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the community, the Good Samaritan Health Clinic has canceled its upcoming Caring for Cullman benefit concert.

In a statement sent Monday afternoon, Good Samaritan Clinic Executive Director Jolanda Hutson said the clinic's board of directors made the decision for the safety of the community and those who would have attended the concert.

"This was a difficult but necessary decision," she said. "As a health care provider, we want to do our part and encourage others to do their part to limit disease exposure and spread within our community and throughout the state as we have many attendees who come from outside of our immediate community."

The concert was planned for Oct. 18 at Northbrook Baptist Church, and would have featured the Triumphant Quartet and Christian comedian and emcee Mickey Bell.

According to Cullman Regional Medical Center's weekly COVID-19 newsflash, Cullman County is in the High-Risk Category for overall level of community transmission. As of Aug. 18, Cullman Regional had 53 hospitalized COVID positive patients and 12 on a ventilator.

The clinic is encouraging everyone to follow precautions to prevent the spread of infection — wash hands, socially distance and wear a mask when you cannot socially distance.

The Caring for Cullman concert was also canceled last year because of the pandemic, leaving the clinic without its signature fundraiser two years in a row. In 2019, the Benefit Concert provided 11 percent of the clinic's annual operating budget.

"While we've been blessed with additional funding during this 18-month crisis, losing the revenue from our signature fundraising event two consecutive years will certainly impact our bottom line," Hutson said.

While the benefit concert is canceled, contribution's to the clinic are always welcome. Donations may be made by credit card through the clinic's secure website at goodsamaritancullman.com.

Donations may also be mailed to:
