The Caring Place is in immediate need of at least 15 volunteers to maintain their food, clothing, social services and spiritual support programs. The nonprofit typically serves 2,000 residents per month with the help of 150 volunteers. The pandemic has caused a drop in volunteers, with only 40 available consistently. The Caring Place needs 15 people to commit to three hours per week to help with their food distribution, clothing department and registration. Interested applicants can find details online at thecaringplaceonline.org

A foundation of love and faith, The Caring Place has support from 60 churches,15 staff members and over 150 organizations and businesses. Their mission is to provide access to the basic resources and opportunities needed for clients to move past poverty. Executive Director Corinne Freeman says they provide various free services to residents living in Bradley County and the surrounding area including a food pantry, Sac Pac program for students in need, free clothing store, community support, temporary financial and housing stability, case management and spiritual support.

“We only have 40 volunteers to assist in providing all of those services right now. We don’t have anyone to handle registration on Tuesday nights or food distribution or donation pick-ups on Wednesday or sufficient volunteers to assist neighbors in clothing on Friday. We need at least 15 volunteers in the next week or we may have to reduce our services times,” said Ms. Freeman

Volunteers are needed from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays to register new clients and update information for existing clients. Help is also needed in the food distribution center on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Interested applicants should be able to commit to three hours per week for at least six months.

“It’s important that our volunteers build a relationship with our neighbors in need. We want them to feel safe and welcomed when they visit us and that’s why we want to make sure they are seeing the same faces consistently,” said Ms. Freeman.
