Brooklyn parents scramble to find child care after center closes - New York Post

Brooklyn parents are scrambling to arrange child care after a city-run day care center is set to close for months.

Parents learned earlier this month that the Warren Street Center for Children and Family in Boerum Hill would shutter by Feb. 28 for roof repairs. The center, which is run by the Department of Education, offers care for toddlers and has a pre-kindergarten program.

Parents were originally told the DOE would try to relocate the kids, but they learned last week that a new location was “not an option,” according to one dad.

“There’s very few spots in the neighborhood,” the parent told The Post. “People are just kind of in panic mode.”

He said his family pays $250 a week and he looked at other centers that were charging more than $1,000.

The DOE said it had called families to help them find an alternative spots. The center serves 60 children.

“Every family who wants a seat will have one,” said spokeswoman Miranda Barbot. “The landlord of the building is conducting necessary repair work and the program will open this fall.”
