Summit Medical Group Opens Breast Care Office in Sparta - TAPinto.net

SPARTA NJ – Sparta has a new neighbor.  Two doctors have opened their doors upstairs from the Sparta Theater.  Summit Medical Group’s Dr. William Diehl and Dr. Priya Jadeja said the move to Sparta was spurred by their desire to make patients facing any stage of breast cancer or benign breast health conditions more comfortable.

“We already see people from Sparta who come to Florham Park,” Diehl said.  “We wanted to come here to make it more convenient for patients and offer the community more choices as we work with local health care providers.”

The doctors said they wish to be part of the Sparta community and work closely with the local physicians and imaging centers to provide medical care to patients close to where they live.

Both breast surgeons have specialty training in breast surgery and surgical oncology.

“This is all we do,” Jadeja said. “We don’t do any other surgery; 100% is breast surgery.”

Jadeja did her breast surgery fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center after having completed her general surgical studies at Cleveland Clinic.

Diehl trained at Morristown Medical Center for general surgery, followed by studies at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York for his surgical oncology fellowship training.

Jadeja said they work as a team with other area doctors, giving “very personalized care,” offering Summit Medical Group’s full scope of advanced services that include oncoplastic surgery, breast conserving surgery with minimal scarring and leading-edge techniques in nipple sparing mastectomy, as well as Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols designed to achieve early recovery after surgery. They want to get people “back into their routine” as quickly as possible.

“The majority of breast cancer procedures can be done on a same-day, outpatient basis,” Diehl said.  Diehl added that Summit Medical Group offers patients access to comprehensive cancer care, including genetics counseling, surgery, and minimally invasive biopsies.

“We understand there are many questions that our patients have to face – whether surgery is best; if they will need a mastectomy; what they can do to preserve their breasts. We have the expertise to discuss which option is best for the individual patient,” Jadeja said.  “We counsel patients on their options, whether it’s at the initial evaluation or a visit for a second opinion.”

Diehl and Jadeja take their passion for healing beyond their office.  For Jadeja this took the form of lobbying in Trenton with one of her breast cancer patients and members of the New Jersey General Assembly.  She is proud to share the fact that Governor Murphy recently signed legislation, requiring health insurance companies to cover fertility preservation therapies for men and women while undergoing chemotherapy.

Diehl recently returned from Guatemala with UHMLA, a group he co-founded to bring surgical services to underserved patients in Central and South America.  This is a trip he takes twice a year with a medical team of surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses.

Both physicians said the best practice is for women to stay on top of their health with annual visits to their gynecologist, internist or family doctor and to get mammograms.

They are currently accepting new patients locally in the new office at 25 Centre Street, above Panera Bread.  Call 973-404-9945 for appointments or more information.
