What’s good for Michigan is good for all of us. That’s why we’re banding together to battle the health and economic hardships created by COVID-19.

Consumers Energy is delivering the energy customers need while providing a critical layer of support for our small business and nonprofit communities. Since March, we’ve helped hundreds of customers impacted by the pandemic to:

  • Customize payment plans for their utility bills.
  • Connect to potential sources of state and federal relief.
  • Discover new business opportunities through the Pure Michigan Business Connect program.
  • Access virtual energy coaching to save energy and money. This is a free service where one of our energy experts will go over your energy use with you, and then suggest programs and rebates that could save your business energy and money — all done safely over the phone. Call 800-805-0490 for details.

Through our foundation, we’ve also donated $2.3 million to community organizations supporting small businesses across the state, including roughly 64 percent to female- and minority-owned companies.

From alpaca farms in Northern Michigan to dance studios in Battle Creek, these grants have helped small businesses stay afloat and prosper during the pandemic. You can learn more about these inspiring people and other Michigan small business owners confronting COVID-19 at ConsumersEnergy.com/HometownStory.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and we’re here to help. Consumers Energy offers support to keep companies operating safely, efficiently and successfully, including:

  • Helping small business owners keep employees and customers safe by complying with new COVID-19-related safety standards. We’ve done the research. You as a business owner have enough to worry about — let us do the heavy lifting free of charge.
  • Experienced energy advisors can then help companies access rebates and incentives for HVAC upgrades to improve ventilation and air filtration, aligning with COVID-19 guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Research shows switching to an energy efficient HVAC system improves the indoor air quality and reduces the number of employee illnesses by 40 percent.
  • Teaming with chambers of commerce and economic development organizations throughout Michigan to make small business owners aware of energy efficiency incentives to lower bills.
