Stronger Together: We have the resilience, collaboration and caring to see us through - Detroit Lakes Tribune

This is also true for our partnership with the community of Detroit Lakes for the past 35 years. Having access to high quality health care close to home is imperative to the success and vitality of a community. More than ever, Sanford Health is invested in Detroit Lakes and the patients we serve in this area.

2020 has been a year of unprecedented and difficult times. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a time of uncertainty and despair. But Sanford employees and our Detroit Lakes neighbors, families, businesses and patients have demonstrated we have the resilience, collaboration and caring to see us through.

I could not be more proud to work for Sanford and be part of our outstanding Detroit Lakes team.

Last spring, Sanford Health went into immediate action to address the pandemic. Our leaders and employees worked around the clock to keep up with the ever changing communication demands, policy and protocol implementation, and diligently focus on employee, community and patient safety.

On a local level, Sanford’s Detroit Lakes clinic and outpatient surgery center implemented curbside COVID-19 testing, mandatory face masks for staff and patients, virtual appointments, sneeze guards at all registration locations and screeners at facility entrances -- all while continuing to provide patient care.

In addition, Sanford has been a leader in providing COVID-19 testing, research, information and behavioral health services to guide and support businesses, families and individuals in the best ways possible.

I see courage on the front lines. I see it in our clinics, surgery suites and labs. Our providers and staff are truly health care heroes who go above and beyond to do the right thing, every day. I am also proud of Sanford’s support of our employees -- including a stability fund for hourly employees, flexibility with PTO and child care needs, behavioral health support and the ability to avoid furloughs and layoffs.

Through this hard work and dedication, Sanford Detroit Lakes has continued to deliver and expand our health care services. By end of this year, we will have added eight providers in Detroit Lakes and six new areas of care: audiology, speech therapy, dermatology, pain and spine care, ENT and neurosurgery. We opened a new outpatient dialysis center -- which has already had a significant impact on the lives of those who need these services. We also plan to break ground on a new eye and optical center and remodel the dermatology and laser clinic in early 2021.

Through it all, I have been amazed at our employees’ endurance, tenacity and willingness to recharge and do whatever it takes to ensure all Sanford patients receive the timely, quality care they deserve. By the grace of God, we will continue to have the privilege of caring for our patients and the community of Detroit Lakes. It is our passion and our calling.

By being “Stronger Together” -- as health care workers, friends and neighbors -- we will come out of this with tighter bonds and a renewed commitment to collaboration, quality and patient care.

Thank you to our employees and physicians, our patients and everyone in the Detroit Lakes area for keeping our community safe and healthy. I am positive we will overcome this challenge and am excited about our future.
