At Thanksgiving, the nonprofit Caring and Sharing provides food boxes, gift cards for perishable food items, and clothing vouchers. At Christmas, they provide food boxes, gift cards for perishable food items, gift cards for teenagers, and toys and clothing for children 12 and under. The over 40-year-old organization will not let this pandemic stop them from continuing to outreach to those in need during the Holidays.
“One of the good things about this very troubling time is that almost everything is on the table which means – ‘but, we’ve always done it that way’ just may not work,” said Ann Thompson, Caring and Sharing President. “Our core volunteers knew we needed to figure out how to be more flexible this year, embrace the changes that needed to be made for how distribution will run, and most important keep our clients and our volunteers safe, and I’m excited to say we all agreed we will find the way to help the community!”
Client application for assistance by registration is a must! Dates for dates for registration interviews are as follows:
Saturday, Oct. 17, 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., and Monday, Oct. 19, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Interviews will be held at the Liberty Church at: 6006 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, (next to Meredith Lumber on Hwy. 98). To abide by the CDC guidelines for COVID-19 safe practices, Caring and Sharing registration will be done as a drive-through process. All registrants will need to remain in their vehicles at all times. To expedite the process, registrants are encouraged to go to the Caring and Sharing website: santarosacares.org/wp-content/ uploads/2020/09/Registration-2020. pdf to download, print, fill out Registration forms.
To obtain support, clients must live in South Santa Rosa County.
Boundaries are from the Okaloosa county line north to the Yellow River and west to Gulf Breeze, including Pensacola and Navarre Beaches.
Clients must bring the following:
• Drivers licenses, photo ID card, or passport (showing name and birthdate) for applicant and all adults in household, otherwise a state ID, military ID, birth certificate, custody papers, or other legal document showing name and birthdate for all other household members including children.*
• Proof of residence (a recent utility bill with current address in South Santa Rosa County)
Holiday Distributions are currently planned for Oriole Beach Elementary School for Sunday, Nov. 22
Christmas is currently planned for West Navarre Intermediate School for Sunday, Dec. 20. The organization recommends checking the website for updates.
